The Update

Goodness! It's been forever since I've updated this blog. So much has been going on, as you can imagine. I doubt we have many readers left, but I'll try to publicize that I'm updating again... just in case. ;)

It's been easy to put off updating because the task seems so huge. And of course, the longer you wait, the longer the update gets. So, after 4 months, I'm condensing the update to this: we have a sweet natured, wonderful little baby boy who is learning new things every day and keeping us laughing. As I type he's sitting in his bouncer studying his socks with intense concentration. No medical problems, no developmental problems. He's right on schedule and he's our joy. So we'll resume our story from here. Besides, if you're near and dear to us, which I'm guessing you probably are if you're taking the time to read our blog, you probably know the details anyway.

This week in Andrew's world has been pretty good. He's been teething the last couple of weeks-- lots of drool, and now some intermittent fussiness. He bites down on his pacifier and then puts his hands on mine and "helps" me yank it out. I think it makes him feel better. He's too young for Baby Orajel (he can start using it at 4 months), so we've been refrigerating his pacifiers. He seems to like that a lot. Sometimes he'll start in on a chilled pacifier and go right to sleep. We got him a teether, but he hates it. He'll probably grow into it, though.

Another big development for him is his cooing. He's really becoming a talker. He likes to talk to the animals on his mobile and to his Mommy and Daddy. For Terry's first Father's Day, I bought a recordable card with the plan of having Andrew coo into it so Terry would have it to keep forever. Unfortunately, the record feature is prefaced with a deep voice saying "Begin your recording after the beep," which left sweet Andrew in startled silence every single time I tried to record him. After much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, he finally cooed into the card. Terry LOVED it. A seven dollar card and some homemade vegetable lasagna and the Daddy of our house was happy as can be. I think he had a good Father's Day.

A quick note on us adults. We are both taking summer classes, and Terry just got a job working as an event technician for UTA's University Center. He seems to really like the job, even though it's a lot of work. I'm not working this summer. The major development for me has been that I'm taking steps to attend UT Dallas in fall to get my Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. It's long been my plan to pursue that field with a Grad degree, but I decided to go ahead and pursue the undergrad as well. It will better my chances of getting into Grad school. UTD is in Richardson, so I will be commuting until November when our lease is finished and we are able to move to the area. Terry graduates in December from UT Arlington with his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Economics, although he will still be taking premed classes after graduation. The job market for him is much better in Dallas, so the move will benefit all of us. I really feel like God is in the lead here, so I have a confidence about it I haven't had with my previous majors. He'll see it through.

My updates will probably be shorter these days. Sweet Andrew just sat through Mommy writing this entire entry without fussing. He deserves some major playtime! Later!
