FOUR words for why I haven't posted much lately: Human Anatomy and Physiology.
Yup, summer classes are in full swing. But boy, am I loving it! Really! The material is so interesting. I have my lab practical on Monday, though, and some major studying to do. I've been studying for the last two weeks, but there are some concepts I need to brush up on.
Terry is enrolled in Microeconomics and History of Civ 2 this summer. He says his Economics professor is highly entertaining (he does these impressions of him that keep me rolling) but hasn't taught the subject in ten years, and was quite shocked to realize that the "11-week" semester he planned for was really only 8 weeks. As much as Terry likes the professor personally, he's concerned that he's just not going to be able to gain much from his teaching style. He's thinking about taking Micro during another semester and just trading this one out for something else. I think he mentioned an art class, or something...
Meanwhile, we'll still on our health food kick. We've only lapsed a little here and there, and we haven't normally enjoyed it. We're getting to where we don't like high sugar, high grease.
Last night I cut a deal with Terry that if he would watch Princess Diaries with me (I just read Julie Andrew's autobiography and I wanted to see her in something), I would watch Freddy Krueger with him (aka, Nightmare on Elm Street). He agreed, but alas, we couldn't find Princess Diaries anywhere (I was shocked, he was relieved), so we bought Mrs. Doubtfire instead, and watched that with our supper. There were special features with all these deleted scenes I'd never seen before, and they really shed some new light on the movie. They made the dad, Daniel, out to be really mean-spirited and vindictive in some of them. I'm glad the scenes got cut.
So, after supper and Doubtfire, it was Freddy Krueger time. We made our own all-fruit smoothies to drink while we watched. Terry made one that was coconut, orange and banana, with soy milk and ice cubes mixed in. We have those bulky block ice cubes that come from an ice cube tray, so they didn't EXACTLY get mixed in very well. Granted, he only pushed the pulse button on the blender 5 or 6 times, and then poured his smoothie into a cup. I kept asking "Are you sure the ice got crushed?" and he kept saying "Oh, yeah, it's fine." Well, he took one sip and you could've hear the crunch from a mile away! So back in the blender it went, and I introduced the dear man to the "ice crush" button. It made all the difference.
Mine had strawberries, a banana, raspberries and blackberries. "The berry delight," as Terry dubbed it. So, I blended it all together and poured it into a glass. Terry and I toasted and then each took a sip of our own, then traded. I thought his was pretty good. He took one sip of mine and made a face reminiscent of the one he made about the sweet potatoes a few weeks ago! Poor guy. The things I put him through...
I've lost 5 pounds so far from our new eating habits. We aren't following the meal plan this time, though. We've recreated it for the sake of us sane people who don't like to eat half a broccoli harvest with every meal. But we've retained some things. We've started buying lots more veggies and all kinds of berries and nuts and snack cheeses to keep us eating throughout the day. We've started buying the good, deli-sliced lunch meat instead of the packaged stuff, and we've discovered we love Hormel vegetarian chili. It's nice to have real food around the house. I'm starting to discover that in the past we didn't just eat out because of what we were craving, we ate out because we scrimped on groceries and there was nothing to eat at home. It wasn't that we wanted bad food, it was that we wanted food! So we're sinking a lot more money into groceries, and saving a lot to balance it because we're not eating out every day.
Today we're going to Duncanville for my wonderful little sister-in-law's 10th birthday. Her name is Glenna, and she's a sweetheart. We're really looking forward to going and spending time with everyone.
But, before we go, I have to study for my lab practical. I'll update soon- I promise!
