The Long Overdue Update

Very bad juju for me for not updating this blog since DECEMBER. I've been chastised by a couple of friends, and was frankly shocked to find that anybody noticed. They might not notice now, though, since they've probably all given up on my lazy self. =)

So, things. Things are good. Christmas was great, we split the time between both our families in Duncanville and Fort Worth. We found an awesome deal on ornaments at Michael's and redid our entire Christmas tree.

(Our Tree)

(Opening presents!!)

We didn't do much for New Years, but that kind of felt nice for once. In January we took some Prepared Childbirth classes at Medical Center Arlington, the hospital where I will deliver. Those were cool, although I knew most of the info from my myriad pregancy books. The free sodas (sugar free, caffeine free... in other words, tinted carbonated water!) were great, though, as was the granola bar basket and the opportunity to stare in awe at all the tiny little human beings tucked away in their isolettes in the nursery. I'm still in utter disbelief that soon one of those tiny little human beings will be OURS. =O

The baby is doing great. He's kicking, moving, and squirming with the best of them. I've read that some women get tired of it after awhile (and I'll grant you that it CAN hurt if the baby kicks at the wrong thing!), but I really haven't. I love just sitting and staring at my bare tummy, watching an arm here or a head there. I'll pat, rub, and sing to the baby, on the off-chance he enjoys any of those things. He's getting so big now that my whole stomach shifts when he moves, not unlike a cat moving around in a pillow case.

Terry celebrated his 26th birthday on January 27th! He enjoyed a day of spoiling that included a homemade dinner and carrot cake, all the movies, X-Files, and network games with friends he could handle, and a brand new Braun shaver that he'd been wanting for a couple of years.

(And of course he licked every. single. candle. =)

We had a sonogram done about 3 weeks ago because I was measuring a bit small (WHAT? SERIOUSLY?), but all is well and the baby is coming along fine. He weighed 5 lbs 5oz then, no doubt WAY more now. He was presenting breech (bottom down), though, and at my latest appointment he had apparently flipped to transverse (side to side). We have another sonogram Thursday to check his position and my fluid levels (my amniotic fluid was at a "high normal" last sonogram, which probably explains his tendency to flip). If he doesn't turn on his own, I'll wind up having a C-section. I asked about an external version (turning the baby manually), but my doctor said for a first time mom with a really tight stomach (probably the last time I'll EVER be told I have a tight stomach, LOL) it carries more risk than benefit to the baby, is really uncomfortable for the mom, and has a success rate of only about 50%. Obviously I'd rather not have a C-section, but I'll do what I have to do. All I want is a healthy baby. =)

Anyway, we had our SHOWER last Saturday, and it was absolutely amazing. My AWESOME, INCREDIBLE sister Kathy did an amazing job, as did my lovely mother-in-law. We had a great turn out, and were amazed and blessed at the generosity of all of our friends and family. We had a free venue provided by The Wesley Foundation, a campus organization that has heaped untold blessings on our head practically from the moment we walked in their door. Overall, we are grateful and blessed.

1) Me opening a game gift after someone else won! Woo-hoo!
2) Terry at the shower- notice a difference? He used that brand new Braun shaver to shave off his beard!!
3) The food area, with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law making preparations.
4) A table centerpiece
5) A couple of our tables at the shower. =)

So, post-shower activities include FINALLY getting the nursery together. I have been pre-washing clothes and trying to nail down an organization system. Our theme is safari. We chose this bedding set...

...which I found on Target.com. It was pricey, though, so I did some hunting and found a gently used set on ebay that had ALL the bells and whistles (comforter, dust ruffle, sheets, mobile, bumper, hamper, rug, window valances, wall hangings), and beat another lesser ebayer out and won it for $36 bucks!!!! The seller didn't title the auction very well, and they only pictured one component of the set in their gallery photo, so I don't think many people realized it was basically an entire room up for sale. I skipped over the listing once myself, not realizing what it was at first. Bad for them, good for us!!! After adding shipping and subtracting our Paypal balance, we only ended up paying $23 out of pocket. Woo-hoo! I'm so excited!! Now I just need for it to get here... quick, before I pop!

Kathy bought us a gorgeous crib, and we're using Terry's old dresser for his clothes. So far my big pride and joy is the "onesie drawer" (see pic), and the fact that I have all of his Newborn and 0-3 month clothes washed, dried, and put away. Believe it or not, that dresser is already FULL. I was dumbfounded... it's amazing how much STUFF you can accumulate for such a tiny little person, and we're just beginning.

I also made Andrew a little name meaning poster for the nursery. I'm really proud of it. I've seen similar things for sale online, but I decided to try my hand at it and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I used our nursery-themed animals. Maybe it will turn into a keepsake for him, who knows...

Anyway, since the shower poor Terry has come down with some kind of stomach bug (and I'm PRAYING I'm not next). He's been down for a couple of days now, and I'm trying to keep him hydrated. He hasn't eaten anything in a day and a half because he can't stand the smell. I've been either stealing away and eating something on the road or eating snack foods upstairs where he can't see or hear me. I nearly made him throw-up yesterday when I came in the room with Goldfish snack crackers, which I had figured didn't have much of a smell to them. Poor guy!

Anyway, I hope the massive update makes up for all the time I've spent away. I'll try to start updating in shorter, more frequent posts... but we'll see. You know me. ;)
