I'm sitting in the library right now, about to go down and study Spanish with Terry. I don't have a whole lot of time to write, but I thought I would go ahead and post an update anyway.
Well, my pregnancy is sure progressing! I feel like I'm hooked up to an air pump and every week I get inflated a little more. The baby is really starting to move around a lot these days-- and Terry finally got to feel the little guy kick! Last night we were watching videos on YouTube and the baby was practically doing flips. Terry got to feel not just one kick, but several in a row! That little guy didn't calm down until... well, I don't know when. He was still at it when I went to bed last night.
I'm 21 weeks right now. I'm looking forward to 24 weeks, because according to a video in my Developmental Psych class, that's when the baby can really start hearing well inside the womb. On the video we got to see this really cool experiment done on a couple of babies that were just hours old. They were each given a pacifier that were hooked up to a computer that measured the intensity of their suckling. Then two recording were played- the first was one with the cadence (rhythm, but not words) of a foreign language, and one with the cadence of English, which was both of their parent's first language. The suckling got really slow and subdued at the foreign cadence, but very vigorous and intentional when the English cadence was played. It means that even before birth, babies are capable of distinguishing the rhythm of their own language with the rhythm of another, which I though was really amazing. If two languages are spoken, the baby can recognize both (which also makes it easier for him to learn both!). I guess that means I have some predisposition to learning Spanish, since I was basically exposed to it my whole life. Hmmm...
Anyway, I love to think of the baby being able to recognize our voices even before he's born... and I'm looking forward to exposing him to all kinds of new sounds! =D Maybe I'll be one of those moms who puts headphones on her belly, LOL.
School is going okay, although I feel like I have one test after another these days. I had THREE this week, and one more to come next week. It's been tiring and stressful. I'm still trying to figure out what to do next semester. I don't know how plausible it is to really handle a full class load with a late pregnancy/new baby, but I need to finish my degree on time so that it's over and done with and I HAVE it.
Anyway, it's time for me to run. Here's to a great weekend!
