First "Real" Appointment and Other News

Well, our first "real" appointment was yesterday and it went very well. We got to hear the heart beat at nine weeks using a Doppler! The doctor said it's very rare to be able to hear it that early. He said the baby must be a "little cadet" (meaning a trooper). He also said, much to my relief, that once you can hear the baby's heartbeat on a Doppler, the chance of miscarriage plummets to virtually nothing. After a month of incessant worry, that was music to my ears! So, this little one is here to stay. I'm so, so glad!

The doctor was very nice. We both really liked him. He was very reassuring, willing to answer our questions (even to the point of prodding us for questions) and he has over 35 years of clinical experience. I am really glad it is all working out.

Today is mini-moving-day. Terry and I get our keys and we are going to move in all the smaller items- kitchen stuff, clothes, shoes, food items, bathroom items. Then tomorrow is the big moving day with all the rest of the stuff. I'm so glad we get to move, especially now that a huge ant pile has developed outside our door. NOT OUR PROBLEM!! =D

I have had a heck of a time lately trying to decide once and for all what my major will be. Nursing, English, Nursing, English, Nursing, English. I've been having nightmares about it. I've done a TON of research, and I think I have concluded I don't want to be a nurse. My reasons in a nutshell: Insane hours, no time for family, 5 total years in school for a BACHELOR'S, and the gut feeling that the job would be too demanding on me emotionally. But I haven't abandoned the idea of a "helping" profession completely.

I have decided to pursue Speech-Language Pathology. There is an undergrad program offered at UT Dallas, but we're not in the position to transfer there for it. Instead, I plan to get an out-of-field Bachelor's here (probably English, and in a FRACTION of the time it would have taken to get a nursing degree) and go on for the Master's program at UT Dallas. I will have a Master's in the same amount of time I would have had a Bachelor's in nursing, and I'll be making more. I've researched job opportunities and they're supposed to be excellent. I am at peace and excited. Now I need to change my major and trade out my classes! Whew!

Terry is doing great. He's still in Pre-Calculus. He has been doing excellent in the class, and there's only one test he is concerned about. He still has his Final ahead of him, though, and I'm sure he will do well. I think he has decided on a History major, although he's still weighing his options, too. He's also reconsidering the option of Air Force ROTC, and vigorously applying for off-campus jobs, including several airlines. Woo-hoo, flight benefits! That'd sure be nice!

That's about all in our neck of the woods! More to come!
